As most of you know already, the Windows 7 official release date to consumers is just around the corner – October 22nd.  As an added bonus, Microsoft is offering a deal to college students…Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium edition for $30.  This is a mega-deal, a discount of $169 from the full retail version (Newegg.com price of $199).

All you need to be eligible is to be a college student, with an email address that ends in “.edu”.  Got it?  Sign up for your copy!  Do it soon as the offer expires in January of 2010!

Not a student?  There is another deal out there (of sorts)…you can purchase Windows 7 Home Premium without purchasing support from Microsoft (this is called purchasing the OEM copy) for $99 rather than the full $199 price.  This means a couple of things:

  1. You can buy it if your are a “system builder” and are going to install this on a new computer (buy some memory or a spare hard drive with it and presto!  You are a system builder!)
  2. You do NOT get to contact Microsoft for support with this version
  3. You do not get any documentation, box, etc…all you receive is the CD.

If none of this scares you, and you can’t take advantage of the student pricing – visit Newegg.com and get a copy of Windows for system builders.
